Introduction

Surfaces for vacuum and high tech applications (semiconductor, vacuum, solar, electronics, optics etc) have to meet increasingly cleanliness requirements. These requirements have to be achieved and therefore quality inspection is one of the most important tool for quality control. Also current developments emphasize more and more quality control implemented in the production proces.

This coure explains the different quality inspection methods for measuring cleanliness (or contamination) on surfaces applied in contamination sensitive components. Also several demonstrations of measurement tools and equipment wil be shown.

The goal of this course is to give the participant a better in-depth knowhow of the analytical methods to measure contamination and/or cleanliness of surfaces. The analytical methods will be explained. Weaknesses and strengths of the methods are also discussed. The participant will have a good overview of the analytical methods and is able to judge the usefulness of the several measurement methods. The participant is also able to evaluate measurement methods with respect to customer requirements.

Content of the course

This course explains the practical usage of the following quality inspection methods for clean(ed) surfaces:

  • Naked eye inspection
  • Bright light inspection
  • UV-light inspection
  • Water-break free test
  • Contact angle measurement (Arco test)
  • Contact angel measurement (droplet)
  • Particle Fall Out (PFO)
  • Stereo microscopy
  • Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM-EDX)
  • Residual Gas Analysis (RGA)

The methods are explained in a convenient way. The relation between the measured contamination and the quality inspection will be explained. Also strenghts, weaknesses, (im)possibilities of the inspection methods will be explained.

This course is interesting for quality managers, production managers, NPI-managers, manufacturing engineers, R&D-engineers, proces engineers, mechatronical engineers, validation engineers, process developers, contamination control engineers, precision cleaning engineers, working in the high tech industries (optical, semiconductor, medical, architectural glass, solar, nuclear, aerospace, defense).

Language

The course handout is written in the English language, the course is instructed in the English language (or in the Dutch language when only Dutch speaking participants are present).
